Liverpool is set to be without Kostas Tsimikas for a "few weeks" after the defender picked up an injury in training. The Greek left-back was absent when the Reds won 3-2 at Southampton over the weekend.

According to the Daily Star's Chris McKenna, Arne Slot will be missing the 27-year-old for a short spell. Tsimikas will not be involved in the game with Real Madrid this midweek with Manchester City to come at the weekend and then trips to Newcastle United and Everton coming in the Premier League next week.

It means that Andy Robertson might be required to play an extended run of matches. Joe Gomez is another option to fill in at left-back, which he did successfully for much of last season.

Robertson has not been in top form this season so far having missed much of pre-season. He picked up an injury after playing for Scotland at Euro 2024 and has been attempting to get back into his stride.

"To an extent, yeah," Robertson admitted after the recent win over Aston Villa when he was asked if he felt he had a point to prove after a couple of games on the bench. "I've maybe got doubters for the first time in a long time at this club, so I'm just trying to prove people wrong again.

"I missed pre-season which is never ideal for any player and then with the ankle, I was struggling and got another knock on it which took a bit of time to settle down. But I feel good. Taking a couple of games out was frustrating — of course you want to play every game — but that wasn't possible. I knew the next time I got a chance, I would try and take it."

Liverpool.com says: Manchester City and Arsenal have had injuries but the Reds have too. The hope is that the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota will be able to return to action soon. Federico Chiesa was also spotted in part of team training at the back end of last week. Slot will give another update later today in his pre-Real Madrid press conference.
