Arne Slot opens up on Richard Hughes talks and what he 'assumes' about Liverpool owner FSG
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has opened up on his relationship with the club's owner, FSG, and sporting director Richard Hughes, after an excellent start to life at Anfield for the Dutchman.
"[Contact] is not on a daily basis but it is the same every month," Slot said, via the ECHO, when asked about Hughes. "I have had a very good relationship from the start with Richard, which is one of the reasons why I loved to join the club.
"I have talked about the fans and the players we have, but if the relationship with the sporting director is not the best you will not go — but it was the contrary of that because I had a good feeling from the start about the person and definitely about the professional.
"It is the same with Michael Edwards and everyone, but the main one I communicate with is Richard. Of course, sometimes there is a bit of contact with the others (FSG) but there is a clear hierarchy and I speak mostly to Richard."
Liverpool has won 15 out of 17 matches under Slot so far and leads the Premier League by five points ahead of Manchester City hosting Spurs later today. The Reds then face Southampton on the south coast tomorrow.
"We are all aware of the fact we are only 11 games into the season and will not get carried away," Slot continued. "It is not like this is the first time in Liverpool's history we have been top of the league. I don’t think the owners will get carried away. I am for sure not getting carried away, and the players will not as well.
"I could assume [FSG] are happy, not just because of the results, but because of the way we have played, mainly the playing style and the results that come from that. The playing style is as expected and that is the positive thing."
At worst, Liverpool will be two points ahead of Manchester City when the two sides kick off at Anfield next weekend. But even so, Slot is insistent that it is too early to be naming anyone as a favorite for the Premier League title.
"I don’t talk about favorites," Slot says. "It is boring but I just talk about the next game, which is a challenge in itself. I have said many times that in the Premier League the margins are very small. That is true all season.
"Last season I followed the league. There was a moment when City were eight points behind Arsenal, so there is no use in getting carried away at all at this moment in time."
Liverpool.com says: FSG will undoubtedly be pleased with how things are going. The transition has been smooth and this looks to be another excellent appointment. So far, Slot has pretty much done everything right.
