Arsenal handed major Viktor Gyokeres transfer boost as Edu presented with dream decision
Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres has reportedly seen his asking price shrink by 30 per cent, despite his clinical start to the season.
Arsenal were linked with the striker over the summer before he announced that he intended to stay in Portugal, after scoring 43 goals in 50 outings for his new club last season. The Swede has been in scintillating form this term too, with 16 goals in 15 matches.
The forthcoming exit of manager Ruben Amorim to Manchester United might make Sporting the target of transfer raids next year. Gyokeres is expected to be the subject of interest given his impressive goals-to-games ratio and the Gunners may have been given more incentive to move for him.
Sky Germany claims that Sporting are willing to accept between £50million and £58m for the attacker, having initially wanted to hold out for his £83m contract release clause. Premier League rivals Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea have apparently been told of this, as have Arsenal.
Arsenal opted against landing a striker this summer, despite the exit of Eddie Nketiah. Kai Havertz is seen as the main choice up top with Gabriel Jesus a back-up option. Raheem Sterling - loaned from Chelsea for the season - and Leandro Trossard also both have the capacity to play the role.
It is unclear whether Mikel Arteta wishes to seek a centre-forward next summer. Havertz has scored seven times in 14 matches but contrastingly Jesus has netted just once in 12 games.

Gyokeres has not played Premier League football but racked up 124 Championship appearances at Swansea City (11 games) and Coventry City, scoring 41 times for the latter.
