Eyes turn back to the Premier League for Arsenal this weekend after midweek Champions League action.

Mikel Arteta’s side came out as 2-0 winners against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night. First half goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal all three points in their second league section game of the tournament.

That match followed a late 4-2 win over Leicester City in the Premier League, a result that took advantage of Manchester City’s draw with Newcastle just a couple of hours earlier. The Gunners will be looking to take another three points on Saturday when another newly-promoted side in Southampton visit the Emirates Stadium for the third home game in a week.

While the transfer window may be closed, that has not stopped speculation over who may come and go when it re-opens in January. Over the last 24 hours there has been reports surrounding Arsenal.

With that in mind, football.london have taken a look at a couple of the stories. We’ve also given our own thoughts on the situation.

Arsenal to reignite transfer interest

Arsenal are still keeping a close eye on Benjamin Sesko after missing out on a move in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Sten Hornig. The Gunners shown an interest in the Slovenian with it reported that they made an offer to RB Leipzig for the player.

He however opted to sign a new contract with the German club, with that running until 2029. Now Arsenal, along with Manchester City and Manchester United are still keeping tabs on the player. In an interview with TuttoJuve , Bild journalist Hornig said:

“Given his age and still extremely high development potential, Šeško would probably help almost every team in Europe. However, I doubt that his path will take him to Italy next summer.

“In addition to the market value of over €75m, which is probably difficult to reach for an Italian club, the biggest difficulties will come from Premier League clubs that want to get serious next summer. I’m referring to Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal, who are among the teams that continue to monitor him the most.”

FL says : Sesko has shown why Arsenal were keen in the summer with his early season form. The forward has scored six goals and provided three assists in eight appearances in all competitions, including a brace against Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

At just 21-year-old Sesko also has a lot of time to continue to improve. If Arsenal can beat their rivals to the signing, maybe in next summer’s transfer window, then that extra year in the Bundesliga may massively benefit the player.

William Saliba transfer truth

William Saliba is happy at Arsenal and there is no truth in reports linking the player to Paris Saint-Germain, that is according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Some reports claimed that PSG were plotting an ambitious move for the Frenchman, but that has now been dismissed.

Writing in his Daily Briefing , Romano says: “Although William Saliba will always be appreciated because of his immense talent, there’s nothing in a rumour that Paris Saint-Germain could make a big offer for his services at this stage, to be fair.

“There has been no approach from PSG, no proposal, no talks. Saliba is a crucial player for Arsenal so I don’t think there could be anything for Saliba to even consider soon.

“He’s very happy at Arsenal and there’s nothing ongoing with any club – no idea where these PSG stories are coming from.”

FL says : Saliba has arguably been the most important player for Arsenal over the last couple of seasons under Mikel Arteta. The 23-year-old has played every minute of every Premier League and Champions League game so far this season.

He has been part of a defence who have conceded five goals in eight games in both competitions so far, a foundation that has allowed Arteta’s team to build on to challenge in both competitions.

If there was to be interest in the centre-back, Arsenal would want mega money for such an important player. That is likely to put the majority of clubs off.
