Arsenal have been dealt a major injury blow in the Premier League title race with Manchester City - after Gabriel was forced off against Liverpool.

Defender Gabriel went down early in the second half and although he initially tried to play on he was ultimately forced off. Poland defender Jacob Kwior was summoned from the bench to replace the Brazilian.

Gabriel is a key player for Arsenal and while the nature of his injury is unknown and will be assessed over the coming days, the prospect of the Gunners losing him for any sort of sustained period of time would be a major worry. Arsenal were already without William Saliba against Liverpool with the centre-back suspended after a red card against Bournemouth.

Gabriel appeared to jar his knee in a collision with Darwin Nunez. Arsenal also have captain Martin Odegaard side-lined through injury although Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber were fit enough to return to action against Liverpool.

The Gunners have been Manchester City's closest title challengers, in the last two seasons, and the Blues have had to deal with a number of injuries themselves. Pep Guardiola's side were without six regular players for the weekend win over recently-promoted Southampton.

Influential midfielder Rodri is a long term absentee, while playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has also been side-lined for a number of weeks. Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, Kyle Walker and Oscar Bobb are also currently injured.
