Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli tipped to become one of world’s best after dazzling derby display
Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli must push himself to become one of the world’s very best players, according to admiring team-mate Granit Xhaka.
The Brazilian international shone once again during Saturday’s hugely satisfying 3-1 north London derby victory over Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium.
Martinelli gave a trademark display packed full of pure energy and skill as high-flying Arsenal moved four points clear at the Premier League summit with their seventh win from eight top-flight matches so far this term, also claiming an assist for Xhaka’s goal and attracting a reckless challenge from Emerson Royal that led to a red card for the Spurs full-back.
The 21-year-old was unlucky not to add to his three-goal haul so far this season against Tottenham and continues to go from strength to strength under Mikel Arteta, with Xhaka tipping him to reach the very top if he continues to work hard.
“Gabriel Martinelli has a lot to be one of the best,” the Swiss midfielder told BBC Sport. “He goes 100 miles per hour. He has to push himself with how far he can go. He has the team and everything around to help him.
“When Mikel came three years ago he said he needed time and you can see the results. We have a big squad with a lot of potential and we are showing it on the pitch.
“We have a different type of spirit and mentality in the team and you can see that.”
