Arsenal transfer target Martin Zubimendi issues verdict on Gunners interest

Arsenal transfer target Martin Zubimendi has ruled out a summer exit from Real Sociedad.

The 25-year-old midfielder has long been of interest to the Gunners, and reportedly has a €60million (£52.6m) release clause in his contract that becomes active at the end of the season.

Standard Sport reported on Thursday that Arsenal were growing concerned over pursuing Zubimendi this summer and the Spain international has now confirmed he is not looking to leave San Sebastian.

Asked about Arsenal interest, he told Marca: "They are just rumours, I am happy at Real Sociedad, it is like my home.

"I cannot say that I will play my entire career at Real Sociedad, perhaps the club won’t want me to continue in the future. But I do not concern myself with these rumours."

Zubimendi is instead only focused on the task at hand at Real Sociedad, adding: "Our goal is to achieve a qualifying spot for Europe next season.

"It would be the first time in Real Sociedad’s history that we have achieved this for five consecutive seasons. It would be something great for us."
