Aston Villa backed to complete stunning transfer reunion after £42m move
Aston Villa have been linked with an eyebrow-raising move to bring midfielder Douglas Luiz back to the club from Juventus in the January transfer window. Brazilian international Luiz completed a protracted move to Italy in the summer for a fee worth north of £42m and which also was accompanied by his partner Alisha Lehmann moving to Juve's women's side.
Things to date haven't really worked out for Luiz, though; he has made nine appearances so far in Serie A and the Champions League, but he has made just two league starts and has missed the last number of games through injury. Criticism has come Luiz's way from members of the Italian press and pundits for what they consider an underwhelming start.
The idea of a loan reunion with Villa has now been mooted. There are suggestions that Luiz, who is due to return to Villa Park at the end of November with the Old Lady for their Champions League clash, hasn't yet fully gathered the full trust of manager Thiago Motta and Juve would be open to a loan with a view to Luiz returning in a more confident frame of mind.

Whether a loan for Villa is even on the cards remains to be seen; the Lions moved Luiz out to help their efforts in complying with PSR, and they moved to bring Amadou Onana to the club from Everton for a club record fee, by way of a succession. The Belgian has played regularly since joining and has scored three times, in wins over West Ham, Leicester and Young Boys.
Aside from that, Unai Emery also has a wealth of central midfield options available to him; Youri Tielemans has made himself a key component of the starting XI, while John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey and the returning Boubacar Kamara - who has spent months out on the sidelines - are also capable of operating in the middle of the park.
