Aston Villa under 21s are into the next round of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy despite a 3-0 defeat to Barrow in the final group game of the campaign. The young Lions were put away by a strong Bluebirds side, who sit in the middle of the League Two pack, thanks to goals from Dom Telford, Theo Vassell and Andy Dallas.

The result at the Toughsheet Community Stadium between Bolton Wanderers and Fleetwood Town, though, secured progress for Josep Gombau's youngsters; the Trotters, top of the group, scored a stoppage time winner to avoid a penalty shoot-out and ensure Villa finished second, above the Cod Army who they'd beaten at Highbury back in September.

Here is what you need to know about Villa under 21s in the next round of the competition.

The draw

The next round, the round of 32, will be played the week commencing the 9th of December. The date for the draw for the next round hasn't yet been confirmed publicly but in recent years it has always taken place towards the end of November. Watch this space.

Prize money

Villa earned £10,000 for their win at Fleetwood and £5,000 more for their draw at Bolton in the group stages. Each side is given £20,000 for participating in the competition, and then you're awarded £10,000 for each victory and £5,000 for each draw in the group stage.

Sides who reach the last 32 and progress earn £20,000 more and then £40,000 if they win their last 16 tie. As much as £50,000 is up for grabs for the victors of the quarter finals and then you receive £100,000 if you win the final at Wembley - £50,000 more is sent to the runner up of the competition. If they were to win the thing from here, Villa would have accumulated up to £245,000 in prize money.

The possible opponents

The rounds 32 and 16 remain regionalised, so Villa - finishing second and unseeded - will play one of the other seven northern section group winners. They are Wrexham, Stockport, Morecambe, Blackpool, Doncaster, Chesterfield and one of Bradford or Rotherham - the pair meet each other next week (19 November) with the Millers two points clear at the top of Northern Group H. Bradford must win to qualify.
