Aston Villa star admits 'everyone should be annoyed' as dream Chelsea scenario outlined
Although their winless run extended to six matches on Saturday, Ross Barkley believes Aston Villa can now kick on after stopping the rot against Crystal Palace.
The midfielder levelled the game up the 77th minute after Palace went in at the break in the lead through Justin Devenny, who bagged just moments after Youri Tielemans missed a penalty with the game level at 1-1. Ollie Watkins had restored parity for Villa in the 36th minute after Ismaila Sarr's opener.
"We want to be winning the game after the difficult spell we’ve been through but there’s plenty of big characters in the changing room," Barkley said. "We all want to win. It just didn’t go our way today. It’s disappointing.

"We came back from conceding and tried to build up from that with the momentum and try to kill the game but it just didn’t go our way. But we’re sticking together and the manager’s pushing us as hard as ever to keep raising our levels.
"Maybe this is just a little dip and maybe this is what we need to kick on. Hopefully we get that win next week against Chelsea and then we’ll kick on again.
"I’m annoyed with the result. Everyone in the squad should be annoyed because we should be winning the game with the quality players that we’ve got. We should be killing that game really. But it didn’t go our way so we’ve got things to learn. It’s one of them days."
Barkley is one of the senior players in the Villa squad and has stepped up in his last two appearances, scoring at home against Bournemouth and Palace last time out. Asked about his role in the dressing room, Barkley explained: "I speak to the majority of the squad. We’re all close. I’m not the most vocal but nowadays the players are all really close.
"It’s changed a bit from back when I started at Everton. It was a lot more vocal back in the day. The manager’s the main figure - he ticks every box, speaks to all the players, motivates us and we all know what we need to do.
"There’s voices from the players at half-time if we’re annoyed or frustrated or whatever. Ezri speaks, Diego speaks, Emi’s vocal, Ginny’s vocal, Leon Bailey too believe it or not because you don’t really get wingers that are vocal. We’ve got voices in there that are frustrated. The manager’s just said keep calm, we’ll analyse it and go again."
Villa will now go in search of their first win in five weeks when they host Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
"It’s massive," Barkley said about the match. "A similar game to Bayern Munich, a massive club with a huge history, top players and a new manager with a different way of playing. We’ll go through that the next few days to approach the game in the correct way.
"It’s going to be a challenge. The Brugge game didn’t go as planned but now’s the time to kick on again. We’ve surprised a lot of teams in years gone by under Unai. If there’s blips, the team gets lifted so there’s nothing to worry about from our side.
"We started off with three wins in three. This game is huge for us. If we get that win, it’s four in five and that’ll be massive for us. It’ll give the lads a massive lift and the fans as well. The fans were fantastic in the last two Champions League games at home so we’re all looking forward to it."
