Ballon d'Or results reveal exact gap between Man City's Rodri and Vinicius Jr after Real Madrid snub
Rodri received 1,170 of a possible 1,485 points from the 100 voting journalists to win the Ballon d'Or ahead of Vinicius Jr.
The Manchester City midfielder earned a first-place vote from almost half of those who cast their ballots, including the media members representing England, Germany, Italy, Portugal and the Netherlands. He had 49 compared to Vinicius Jr's 35, with Brazil, France and Spain opting for the Real Madrid forward.
His midfield teammate Jude Bellingham got five first-place votes, including from Scotland and Slovenia's representative. Dani Carvajal also got four, while the retired Toni Kroos received two. City's Erling Haaland also had one from South Korea, with Ademola Lookman, Kylian Mbappe and Lautaro Martinez the others with a first-place vote.

The allocation of points changed this year, with 15 for first, 12 for second, 10 for third, eight for fourth, seven for fifth, five for sixth, four for seventh, three for eighth, two for ninth and one for tenth on each ballot. Previously, voters only picked a top-five, with the first receiving six points, the second getting four, and each place receiving one less in descending order.
Further complicating matters was that the journalist selected from Syria did not cast a ballot, meaning there were only 99 voting. Contributing to the difference between Rodri and Vinicius Jr was that three voters, from El Salvador, Finland and Namibia, did not give the Brazil international a single point.
Finnish journalist Juha Kanerva described that as a "technical error" after being called out on social media, acknowledging that he would "resign from the Ballon d'Or jury". Rodri finished just 41 points ahead of Vinicius Jr.
Further down the rankings, Haaland finished a distant fifth behind Carvajal with 118 points separating them, but the City striker had a gap of just 12 to Mbappe beneath him. Phil Foden, meanwhile, finished 64 points behind his England captain, Harry Kane and 56 ahead of Florian Wirtz.
Ruben Dias managed just eight points, five less than Antonio Rudiger and the same as William Saliba. However, despite sharing the exact total, the City defender took the tiebreaker by featuring in a higher spot on more ballots than the Arsenal man. Cole Palmer also finished one point behind them and two ahead of Declan Rice.
