BASEBALL: Drake's 8th inning single lifts BHS past Pirates

Apr. 25—BATESVILLE — It took an extra inning, but Batesville was able to hold off Greensburg 5-4 in eight innings in EIAC baseball action Monday.

With the game tied at 4-4 in the home-half of the eighth inning, Batesville's Connor Drake singled in the winning run.

Drake finished with four hits, two runs scored and the game-winning RBI. Chris Lewis had two singles and two RBIs for the Bulldogs. His RBIs tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brayden Maple added a single, double and two runs scored. Eli Loichinger had a double and RBI. Alex Krekeler singled for Batesville.

Loichinger started on the mound for Batesville, pitching five innings and allowing two earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five. Lewis pitched three shutout innings, giving up just one hit with four strikeouts.

Caleb Greiwe suffered the loss on the mound for the Pirates. Greiwe pitched 5.1 innings, allowing one earned run on nine hits and one walk while striking out five. Gavin Owens pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Greensburg had eight hits in the game, led by Leland Workman with three. Owens had a pair of singles. Bryson Kelso (RBI), Greiwe and Ethan Smith all had one hit. Justin Adkins drove in two runs for the Pirates.

North Decatur

GREENSBURG — With two runs in the top of the seventh inning, Oldenburg Academy escaped North Decatur with an 11-10 victory Monday.

The Twisters scored six run in the top of the sixth to rally to a 9-8 lead.

North answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Dean singled and Nolan Burkhart followed with a double. Xander Jones was hit by a pitch. Dean scored on a fielder's choice to make it 9-9. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Brayden Murray singled to score Jones with the go-ahead run.

In the top of the seventh, North retired the first two Twister batters. Eckstein followed with a single and move to second on defensive indifference. Holder followed with an RBI single to score Eckstein and tie the game at 10-10. After a walk to Schuman, Hoff singled in Holder for the go-ahead and eventual winning run.

Kamdenn McKinney drove in four runs and had two singles for the Chargers. Buckhart had a double, triple and one RBI. Dean, Jones (2 RBIs) and Murray (RBI) all had two hits for North. Grayson Downey, Eli Trenkamp and Pax Hess all had one single.

Trenkamp, Jones and Murray all pitched for North.

Greensburg

GREENSBURG — The Pirates cruised to a 15-5 win in five innings over visiting South Ripley Tuesday.

Senior Leland Workman led the offense with two triples and four RBIs.

Senior Ethan Smith pitched 1.2 innings, allowing three unearned runs on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Bryson Kelso earned the win in relief, allowing two earned runs in 3.1 innings with five walks, two hits and two strike outs.

Conner Beagle went 2-for-4 at the dish with a pair of RBIs. Justin Adkins, Cy Miller and Caleb Greiwe all had multi-hit evenings as the Pirates finished with 12 hits.

Greensburg (6-3, 4-2 EIAC) plays host to Batesville at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
