Baseball: Pirates walk off against Knights, 3-2

Apr. 19—GREENSBURG — After visiting South Dearborn tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the top of the seventh, the Pirates answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off to the 3-2 win.

Chase Tekulve opened the bottom of the seventh with a single to left field. Ethan Smith put down a sacrifice bunt to move Tekulve to second. A South Dearborn error allowed Bryson Kelso to reach first and move Tekulve to third.

Lance Workman was intentionally walked to load the bases. A fielder's choice by the Knights got Tekulve at the plate to keep the game tied at 2-2 with two outs. Gavin Owens then drew a four-pitch walk to force in Kelso with the winning run.

Greensburg scored one run in the first inning on a Workman home run. Justin Adkins scored on a single to right by Cy Miller in the bottom of the second.

Greensburg had seven hits in the game. Adkins had a pair of singles. Workman, Cy Miller, Jacoby Miller, Tekulve and Smith all added one hit.

On the mound, Lance Coy pitched 6.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out seven. Owens pitched .2 innings, allowing no runs, no hits and one walk with one strikeout.

North Decatur

GREENSBURG — The Chargers scored 11 runs through the first three innings en route to a 14-8 victory over visiting Morristown.

North scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and seven in the bottom of the second.

Nolan Burkhart, Xander Jones, Kamdenn McKinney, Eli Trenkamp and Pax Hess all had two RBIs for the Chargers. Grayson Downey, Burkhart and McKinney all had two hits. Brayden Murray had a double.

On the hill, Tyler Dean picked up the win, pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out seven. Jones pitched three innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out six.

The Chargers posted a sweep of Edinburgh.

In the first game, North scored six runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth en route to a 12-9 victory.

North pounded out 13 hits in the game. Burkhart and Downey (RBI) both had three hits. Burkhart had a pair of doubles and five RBIs. Jones had a big game with two hits and three RBIs. McKinney added two hits. Dean, Trenkamp (RBI) and Murray all had one hit.

McKinney got the win on the hill, going 4.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out 10. Jones pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two.

In the second game, North trailed 6-4, but score four runs through the final three innings to rally for the 8-6 win.

Burkhart had another big day, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Downey added a double. Dean had two hits. Jones (RBI), McKinney, Trenkamp (RBI) and P Hess (RBI) all had one hit.

Dean got the win for North, pitching five innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits and four walks while striking out eight. Trenkamp pitched two innings, allowing no earned runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two.

Batesville

BATESVILLE — The Bulldogs scored eight runs through the first three innings en route to an 8-4 win over Franklin County.

Batesville's Dane Dudley drove in four runs on a double and single. Carter Bohman had two singles. Jack Grunkemeyer added a double and one RBI. Eli Loichinger had a double and RBI. Carson Schneider added a single and RBI. Brayden Maple and Alex Krekeler also had one single.

On the mound, Grunkemeyer got the win, pitching four innings and allowing no earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out nine. Bohman pitched 1.1 innings, allowing no earned runs on one hit while striking out three. Rylan Yeager pitched 1.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out one.

Rushville

RUSHVILLE — The Lions knocked off EIAC foe South Dearborn Wednesday 4-3.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, the Lions got a double by Damion Trueblood with one out. After a balk, Trueblood scored on a passed ball. Colin Taylor drew a walk. Trey Newman had a single. Taylor and Newman scored on Josh Wainwright's double to make it 3-1.

The Knights cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the third, but the the Lions got that run back in the home-half of the third. Nicholas Bowles singled with two outs. Trueblood was hit by a pitch. Taylor's double scored Bowles to make it 4-2.

South Dearborn scored one run in the top of the sixth, but Rushville shut the Knights down in the seventh for the win.

Trueblood, Taylor and Wainwright all had a double. Wainwright drove in two runs and Taylor drove in one.

Tyler Smith got the win, going 5.1 innings and allowing two earned runs on one hit and five walks while striking out five.

The Lions fell to Lawrenceburg Thursday 9-4.

Keegan Bowles led the Rushville offense with a pair of doubles and a single. Mo Manghelli (RBI) and Nicholas Bowles (RBI) had the other two hits for Rushville.
