Tottenham Hotspur spent £65million on Dominic Solanke to replace Harry Kane. But given the opportunity, Spurs supporters, Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy would take the England captain back in a heartbeat.

Postecoglou admitted as much when he was quizzed by a young fan over the summer. Postecoglou said: "Can I buy Harry Kane back? Well it’d be great if I could. The beauty of Harry is that everything that he’s done at this football club will remain forever, even though he’s not with us now. He’ll always be part of this football club."

Spurs did insert a buyback clause into the contract that saw Kane make the £100million move to Germany in 2023. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was asked about it a fans' forum and said: "Of course."

It is understood that the buyback clause gives Tottenham first refusal to sign him, should the opportunity arise in the future. Kane is just 47 goals behind Alan Shearer's Premier League goalscoring record and has been tipped to return before his career ends to try and chase that record down.

Before he left he became Tottenham's all-time top scorer, overhauling Jimmy Greaves' record.

Kane missed out on ending his trophy drought last season when Bayer Leverkusen went the entire Bundesliga season unbeaten to win the title and claimed the league and cup double too.

But Bayern are well on course to give Kane his first piece of silverware in his career this season, with the German giants three points clear at the top of the table after nine games.

And Bayern may well have dropped the first hint that Kane could return to the Premier League soon, and a reunion with Tottenham. Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has reported that Bayern have inquired over the possibility of signing Sporting CP hitman Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has plenty of admirers, having scored 43 goals in 50 matches last season, with another 23 already this season in just 17 appearances. Gyokeres has been scouted by a number of Premier League clubs, with Bayern now among his suitors.

Plettenberg said: "FC Bayern have inquired about Viktor Gyokeres and gathered information, but no further action has been taken yet. Nearly all top European clubs have already made similar inquiries in recent weeks and continue to do so.

"Bayern plan to continue closely monitoring his situation. The 26-year-old striker is expected to leave Sporting no later than in summer. As revealed, he is permitted to transfer for a fee between €60million and €70million."

If Bayern are interested in Gyokeres, you would not expect them to splash the cash on someone to sit on the bench, meaning they are potentially on the lookout for someone to replace Kane in the near future.
