Bayern Munich target yet another Chelsea exile with move for Christopher Vivell

Bayern Munich are hoping to take advantage of Chelsea’s revolving door for a fifth time after lining up a move for highly rated technical director Christopher Vivell.

Vivell left Chelsea earlier this year, following less than 12 months in his role, and is understood to be serving a period of gardening leave during which he visited Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

But Vivell may not be out of work for long, with Bayern interested in adding him to the ex-Chelsea staff at the German club.

Bayern appointed Chelsea’s Champions League-winning head coach Thomas Tuchel in March, with his former backroom staff of Arno Michels and Zsolt Lőw moving with him to Germany.

Former Chelsea first-team coach Anthony Barry, who had worked under Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, then followed the German to Bayern with the Bundesliga giants paying significant compensation to land him.

Vivell was only officially hired by Chelsea last December and his time at the club was brief after the Blues also appointed co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

That ultimately led to Vivell’s premature departure, but the 36-year-old remains extremely popular among staff at Chelsea and very highly rated within European football.

Before joining Chelsea, Vivell spent a number of years working within the Red Bull football franchise at Salzburg, where he was head of scouting and sports coordinator, and Leipzig, where he was technical director and recruitment chief.

It is unclear whether or not Bayern are willing to pay compensation to land Vivell, who is believed to have cost Chelsea a significant sum to take from Leipzig.

Bayern had problems in the summer transfer market, which resulted in the club missing out on deadline day moves for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah and Fulham midfielder João Palhinha, but the club did land Harry Kane in a £100 million deal from Tottenham Hotspur.
