Bees through to next round after comfortable cup win

Bridport made the most of their trip down to Cornwall as they put five past Launceston in the Walter C Parson League Cup.

The Bees continued their strong run of form as they remain unbeaten in eight of their last nine games in all competitions.

Goals from James Cox, Fred Parsons, Solomon Ayunga, Riley Weedon and Kieran Coombs set up a trip to Newquay in the next round.

Chris Herbst side did have to play out the remaining twenty minutes with ten men as Cox was sent off after wrestling an opponent to the ground right in front of the referee.

Bridport got off to to the best start possible when Cox opened the scoring in the second minute as he slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.

The home side responded almost immediately and within six minutes the scores were level after Jordan Scadding initially saved an effort from the left but was unable to stop the follow up.

With almost half an hour played, there was a pause in play after one of the referee's assistants went down injured.

Thankfully, the Bees first aider Mark Tozer, a qualified referee, stepped in to run the line allowing the game to continue.

The game went flat after the break in play, but Bridport were controlling possession and were able to restore their lead before the break.

Parsons' brilliant first-time shot from the edge of the area was too much for the Launceston keeper to deal with and Herbst men went into the break 2-1 up.

After the restart, Bridport saw hances come and go for the likers of Ayunga and Weedon with Launceston causing a few problems of their own as the game remain finely poised.

Then, with an hour played, Bridport extended their lead courtesy of Ayunga who found space to turn and fire the ball home for 3-1.

With seventy minutes on the clock, the Bees were left a player down after Cox's rash decision to wrestle an opponent to the ground right under the nose of the referee, who sent him for an early bath.

Despite being a man down, the Bees continued to press, and it didn't take long for them to seal the game.

Weedon sent a free-kick from the left side flying into the net in the net as the bees added a fourth, minutes before Coombs sent a left foot shot goalwards for 5-1.

Bridport now move on to the next round where they will face Newquay in the third round on Saturday, November 30.
