Billy Dodds insists Rangers must find a proven goalscorer in order to wrestle the title back from Celtic.

The Ibrox side relied heavily upon £4.5million striker Cyriel Dessers last season due to long-term injuries to Danilo and Kemar Roofe. Yet while his goal record certainly stood up to scrutiny with 22 in 54 appearances, the much-maligned Nigerian was accused of spurning one too many chances throughout the campaign.

Now linked with a summer exit, it remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old will still be part of Philippe Clement's squad when the season kicks off next month. But regardless of what happens, former Gers star Dodds believes his former club must unearth a striker with a prolific pedigree.

He told the BBC Sportsound podcast: "I think they've got to get a striker that takes a better percentage of chances. Nothing against Cyriel Dessers, it looks like he might be one of the ones going, but he missed too many. When you play with Rangers, you've got to have a better... not return, because he had 22 goals, it's the ones he missed and the ratio.

"I think they need someone who hits 30 because if you hit 30-plus at Celtic or Rangers, you've got a great chance of winning the title. So certainly a striker that takes a percentage of chances and that mentality again, it's got to change."
