Birmingham City fans have rightly pointed out that their League One rivals will also face the upcoming rush of fixtures – and they haven’t got the squad depth that Chris Davies has at his disposal.

Blues face the prospect of playing 18 games in 70 days after the conclusion of the international break, a game every 3.8 days on average. Their schedule could become even more congested if postponed fixtures with Cambridge and Stevenage are added into the mix. Progression in the FA Cup hasn’t yet been factored in either.

But Blues aren’t the only third tier side facing a packed schedule and many supporters have pointed to the squad Davies built in the summer. Davies anticipated that Blues could play up to 60 games this season across all competitions and formed a team with at least two players for every position.

Blues have a first team squad that is 25 players strong and their injury list has reduced in recent weeks. Many of their League One rivals, meanwhile, haven’t got such luxuries.

Looking at our breakdown of Blues’ brutal December and January schedule, one fan said: “This could actually be good for us. Other teams will have busy schedules without the squad we have. We’ll be fine.”

Another Blues fan added: “This should work in our favour. A lot of teams have had two plus games postponed, are still in the FA Cup and still in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy. We have the strongest squad and using it correctly should see us benefit.”

The general consensus does seem to be that this period could be season-defining for Blues if Davies can rotate his team well. “This kind of congestion is wild,” stressed one supporter. “Yes we have a strong squad but that’s a lot of games for anyone. Rotation is going to have to be vital.”
