Birmingham City predicted XI vs Fulham U21s with seven changes and Luke Harris' situation clarified
Birmingham City look to put the finishing touches to their Bristol Street Motors Trophy qualifying campaign when they face Fulham Under-21s at St Andrew’s @Knighthead Park on Tuesday evening.
It is a game that could well see Chris Davies make wholesale changes to a side that has something of a hiatus from League One action, with this fixture followed by an FA Cup trip to Sutton United on Sunday.
It is also the final Group A game, a draw with Walsall and a win over Shrewsbury Town having Blues second in the table. With two to go through Davies knows a draw against Fulham’s youngsters will be enough to take his side into the first knockout stage, the round of 32.

It might have been a perfect scenario to reintroduce Luke Harris back into the team, however the loanee is not eligible to play against his parent club and having come off the bench against Mansfield at the weekend, the youngster will watch from the stands.
However, Davies will get the opportunity to reintegrate Bailey Peacock-Farrell after a combination of form and fitness saw him lose his first team place to Ryan Allsop.
Defensively, Davies will call up Dion Sanderson and in all likelihood give Ethan Laird the night off at right back, with Alfons Sampsted champing at the bit for a rare start. He is unlikely to be able to offer Ben Davies a break and he will be torn between dipping further into Alex Cochrane’s energy resources or opting for Brandon Khela at left back. I suspect progress and pragmatism will trump Khela’s claims.
In midfield there is going to come a time when he will have to give Paik Seung-ho and Tomoki Iwata a breather. Davies has been reluctant to rotate them in the league but has the chance to deploy Marc Leonard and Taylor Gardner-Hickman in their stead.
Half of the remaining positions go to Ayumu Yokoyama and Alfie May, with the latter probably playing behind Lyndon Dykes. All of which leaves a Keshi Anderson-sized hole on the right – one Harris would have been well-suited for. Blues will hope the 19-year-old gets an opportunity in the next round of the competition.
PREDICTED BLUES XI: Peacock-Farrell; Sampsted, Sanderson, Davies, Cochrane; Gardner-Hickman, Leonard; Anderson, May, Yokoyama; Dykes
