Bristol Rovers have sacked manager Matt Taylor, which could influence the future of Blackburn Rovers midfielder, Jake Garrett.

The 20-year-old joined the Gas on a season-long loan in the summer but Rovers holding the option of recalling him in January. Under Taylor, the loan move has not worked out.

Garrett made a strong start to life in League One, starting three games in a row back in August and September. But September 14 was the last time he was named in a third-tier line-up, having fallen out of favour.

The midfielder has not played a single league minute since October and has been rotated from an unused substitute to a player who can't make the matchday squad.

As a result, it looked inevitable that Rovers would recall him with the view of integrating him into the squad again or loaning him out once more.

But Taylor has now been dismissed with Bristol Rovers sitting 20th in the league table. The manager has been under mounting pressure so the decision comes as little surprise.

A new boss could give Garrett the minutes he needs to satisfy both the player and Rovers. John Eustace conceded it is a situation that will be assessed in the New Year, as will Connor O'Riordan spell at Cambridge United, which has gone in a similar direction.
