Board of Education recognizes varsity girls basketball team

Apr. 17—TIFTON — Members of the county Board of Education praised the Lady Devils Varsity Basketball team, following their victory at regional championships, at the board's April 11 meeting.

Coach Julie Conner-Johnson reported that the basketball team had taken home the gold at regional level, known as the Elite Eight, for the seventh time, with this particular victory being the first such achievement since 2011.

She reported that the team had ended their season with a win/loss record of 25-5, and thanked the players for their hard work and a job well done, inviting them to the front of the room to receive a commemorative certificate for the accomplishment.

Johnson also expressed her gratitude to Tift County High School Athletic Director Chris Martin, her assistant coaches and student assistant, and interim high school principal Dr. Jerry Baker, whom she recounted had been particularly supportive of the girls basketball team.
