Wanderers could secure their place in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy knockout stage when they host Fleetwood Town.

Ian Evatt’s men are second in Group D after taking four points from their opening two matches, winning at Barrow before drawing against Aston Villa Under-21s, who claimed a bonus point on penalties.

The Whites are looking to quickly bounce back from their 5-0 thrashing at Stockport over the weekend which saw them drop out of the League One play-off places.

Team news

The illness which swept the Bolton camp last week has cleared but Evatt says he will not be taking risks.

Josh Sheehan, Szabi Schon, Dion Charles and Luke Southwood are all away on international duty with their respective nations.

Nathan Baxter returned in goal at Edgeley Park but George Thomason, Kyle Dempsey, Eoin Toal, Chris Forino and Carlos Mendes Gomes all remain sidelined.

Chances could be offered to the likes of Luke Hutchinson, Conor Lewis, Noah Halford, Sam Inwood and Sonny Sharples-Ahmed, who were all absent from the B Team squad against Rotherham.

Opposition lowdown

Fleetwood are managed by Charlie Adam, who played alongside Evatt at Blackpool before hanging up his boots.

The Cod Army are a point behind Wanderers, having lost against a strong Aston Villa side before taking all three points against Barrow.

Adam’s side enter the game on the back of a much-needed 1-0 win against Bradford City in League Two thanks to Ronan Coughlan’s spot kick.

Head-to-head

Wanderers have faced Fleetwood 10 times in competitive fixtures, with a record of nine wins and one defeat.

The Whites ran out 3-1 winners when the sides met at the Toughsheet last season, with Victor Adeboyejo netting a first-half hat trick before Dion Charles was sent off.

Evatt’s men also came out on top at the Highbury Stadium several months later, with Charles and Adeboyejo both on target.
