Brazil legend intervenes in Gabriel and Richarlison feud with clear instruction

Richarlison and Gabriel Magalhaes react during the Premier League match between Arsenal FC and Tottenham Hotspur at Emirates Stadium on September 24, 2023.

Brazil legend Rivaldo has told Richarlison and Gabriel Magalhaes to leave their feud on the pitch following last weekend’s North London Derby clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Arsenal came out as 3-2 victors over rivals Tottenham, after weathering a late Spurs comeback from 3-0 down. The result saw them remain top of the Premier League.

Gabriel played the full 90 minutes for Arsenal in the centre of defence alongside William Saliba, while Richarlison, who has just made his return from injury, came on for Tottenham in the second half.

He made his presence felt, earning a yellow card for a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge on Brazil teammate Gabriel. After a Spurs supporter shared the clip on social media, he shared the clip on his own account, playfully mocking the Arsenal man .

Rivaldo has called for the duo to leave any feuds on the pitch and not take them to social media, especially as they are soon to join up as teammates in the Brazil national squad. The nation are due to take part in the Copa America in the summer.

“Last weekend, Brazil teammates Richarlison and Gabriel Magalhães clashed while playing for Tottenham and Arsenal. A week on, I hope they make peace,” he told Betfair.

“That rivalry should stay on the field and they should not use social media to attack each other because it's not good for anyone's image. Gabriel has a great chance of being a starter for Brazil because anyone who plays in the English league knows how difficult it is and the quality of the attackers he faces every week.”

Richarlison has established himself as a key member of the Brazil squad over the last few years. The forward has scored 20 goals in his 40 appearances for his nation but was an unused substitute during the last international break as he made his way back from injury.

Gabriel is still establishing himself in the national squad. The defender has appeared in all six of the nation’s World Cup qualifiers but pulled out of the squad for the friendlies back in March due to injury.
