Brendan Rodgers explains Celtic changes as boss says 'certain profile of player' needed for Aberdeen title clash
Brendan Rodgers has made four changes to his Celtic lineup as the Hoops look to go seven points clear by beating Aberdeen on Wednesday evening - and the Northern Irishman has stated that a 'certain profile of player' is needed to beat the Dons.
Celtic remain unbeaten on Scottish soil so far this season, but they face what is likely to be their toughest game yet in the Scottish Premiership as they head up to Pittodrie - aiming to go seven points clear with a game in hand.
Rodgers knows a loss will see his side slip down to just one point ahead of their opponents, and the boss has made four changes with Auston Trusty, Reo Hatate, Nicolas Kuhn and Kyogo Furuhashi all coming into the side - and the boss has stated that attacking changes are required to keep the freshness and intensity that he likes to play with.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of their game in the Granite City, Rodgers said: “I’ve said it and I’ll repeat it to you, we’re trying to keep the energy in the team and the intensity in the game, I think that’s how we play, that’s how we work and you can only do that with freshness, especially in those attacking areas.
“Our pressing, having that energy, to impress the game how we want to is very, very important. And obviously then that’s part of your work with the ball, so 8’s, wingers, strikers - they’re very important for us.
“They’re all very good players, but you look at each game and you look at where you might need a certain profile of player, but like I say - the players on the side know that they’re ready to come into the game if we need them.”
