Brendan Rodgers madcap Celtic sack call baffles Simon Donnelly who rips into 'negativity'

Simon Donnelly could hardly believe what he was hearing on Superscoreboard this evening after a Rangers fan suggested Brendan Rodgers should be SACKED.

The Celtic boss has a three point lead over the Ibrox outfit heading into this weekend's derby day at Parkhead which leaves the hosts in a strong position. A win against their foes would all but guarantee the title after a campaign filled with twists and turns.

After a caller - David - claimed Rodgers should be under more pressure having allowed a seven-point lead to slip away earlier in the season, ex-Hoops man Donnelly was surprised to hear the suggestion as it downplays the job Philippe Clement and his staff have done at Ibrox to claw their way back into the race for the trophy.

"Wow, I can't believe what I'm hearing," Sid said. "So he should be sacked because... why? Because he's not won the league yet? You have to give Philippe Clement and Rangers credit there as well. David's talking about rationalise results, you would never have thought Hearts would go to Celtic Park and win but these things happen in the league.

"Yeah, Brendan Rodgers has received a bit of stick throughout the season on the back of two really successful seasons under Ange, his team's been criticised and their style of play. But they're three points ahead.

"Regardless of winning on goal difference or by one point, it'll go down in history and it'll be the same if Rangers win it. We'll not be here quibbling over dropped points here, there and everywhere. 'We were leading by seven points then they were leading it', it'll be who wins the title.

"Maybe David's a wee bit... he keeps referring to fun, maybe it's Brendan Rodgers' comments last week after the game but Philippe Clement can still win a treble for Rangers this year, you have to credit the job he's done since he's come in there. To suggest that there's a negativity because Celtic's three points clear just now with a few games to go and a home game, in a strong position, is bizarre."
