Brendan Rodgers has fired a strong message to the Celtic pyro yobs and told them: 'You don't care for your club', if appeals to rap the fireworks are rubber-eared.

The Scottish champions landed a UEFA fine of €20,000 and a suspended probationary away supporters ban. Further action will result in the Hoops being without their fans on the road in Europe with big Champions League clashes on the horizon like Aston Villa in a Battle of Britain showdown. The club themselves also issued a loud and clear message to the fanbase with now boss Rodgers giving his take during his press conference ahead of this weekend's top of the table clash with Aberdeen.

He told the media: "I really hope so. We don't need the pyrotechnics for great support. The support that we get home and away in games is absolutely incredible. We can't let that type of behaviour dictate whether fans can maybe be in the position of not attending a game because that's not fair, it's not right. People that have followed Celtic home and away for years and years and years should never be getting banned.

"As I said, the support is incredible and that is not something that we need. We're not a club that needs that to ignite our support base. What we bring to a stadium in colour and noise is absolutely amazing. I hope that this does end because it just wouldn't be right for any of our supporters to miss a game. "

Asked if it would be a real shame if supporters for example missed out on the Battle of Britain clash with Aston Villa, Rodgers conceded it doesn't matter the opposition it is just something they can NOT afford to let happen.

He said: "Whenever it is, we can't afford for that to happen. If it does, then it's totally a minority of our support. It's as simple as that. Our support is incredible, where it travels and what it gives us. We just need to make sure we draw a line on that and just come with the banners and with the noise and the colour and that will give us a great chance on the field."

A ban would not only prove damaging to the fans but also the players. Rodgers - in a passionate address - put it bluntly when he said fans being banned after travelling on the road with Celtic for years would be 'absolutely not right'. The backing from the terraces also transpires to the field and gives the 11 bodies on the park and those who enter a real lift and drives them on. Going on the road without them - as difficult as it already is - would only make that task even harder.

He said: "It's both. It's players and supporters. If you're a supporter that's travelled worldwide following Celtic all these years and then you can't go because you're banned for a game, that's not right.

"It's absolutely not right, especially in that way. But likewise, the players on the field, the support make such a monumental difference to us and that's what this club has been about.

"The supporters driving the team right to the very end in games and giving us that fantastic support. It certainly wouldn't make it easier for us being away from home without our own people there."

The Scottish authorities are also keen to clamp down on the issue that is creeping into the game more and more often. Rodgers hopes the latest UEFA sanction sees the penny drop for those responsible. He has told those responsible that if they keep on doing it they are showing they don't really care for the team, support or the club.

He added: "Hopefully, yes, because it's nothing to do with football. If you keep doing it, you're showing that you don't really care. You don't really care for the team, you don't care for the support and you don't care for your club because the club ultimately is getting fined as well. So if you keep doing it, you're clearly showing that you're actually not really worried about your own club.

"You're worried about yourself. It doesn't need it and if you need to do it, then do it outside the stadium. But don't do it inside where you're going to cause a risk to other people, other supporters, risk yourself not being there and obviously the team ultimately.

"When I see the flares and everything, I'm always worried about the people behind."
