Alexis Mac Allister scored the latest of penalties as Brighton produced a last-gasp 1-0 win over Manchester United at the Amex Stadium on Thursday night. The Argentine blasted a 99th-minute spot-kick past David de Gea after Luke Shaw’s foolish handball was spotted by the VAR in a chaotic ending to an truly absorbing contest on the south coast.
The result saw Brighton get revenge on United for their agonising FA Cup semi-final shootout defeat at Wembley less than two weeks ago as Roberto De Zerbi’s side also achieved a huge boost in their bid for European football next season. The Seagulls are now above Aston Villa and Tottenham and up to sixth, four points behind in-form Liverpool in fifth with two games in hand. They are eight points behind fourth-placed United, who have played a game more.
