Bulls’ Patrick Williams speaks up after damning video of poor body language from Pacers game
It’s been a rocky start to the year for Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams. After getting benched by head coach Billy Donovan in the preseason, he hasn’t performed up to par during the regular season so far. He’s due a contract extension, but with the way he’s been playing, there could be questions as to whether or not he’ll be brought back.
The latest piece of damning evidence against Williams came in during the Bulls’ recent win over the Indiana Pacers. After Alex Caruso hit a clutch three, social media quickly pointed to Williams’ body language on the bench in the video of the shot.
Williams slowly walks away to the side with an expressionless face. Even he admitted it looked bad.
“When I saw the video, I was, like, ‘Damn, that looks bad,’ ” Williams said via Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic.
However, Williams went on to explain what actually happened in the clip.
“Terry Taylor was in that corner,” Williams said. “So when [Caruso] made it, I looked at [Taylor], like, (scrunches face). And I dapped him up. But he was in the corner. It did look bad. It’s been a couple of clips like that since I’ve been in the league. Just the camera angle of it makes it look bad. And I usually don’t see them until after.”
Williams’ valid excuse for the video doesn’t make up for the level of play he’s brought to the table so far this year. The Bulls need him to be better.
