Callum Marshall outlines Huddersfield Town target after West Ham switch
Huddersfield Town loanee Callum Marshall has his sights set on adding to his goal tally after netting three times for the Terriers during his loan spell to date.
The 19-year-old striker has found the back of the net against Morecambe, Shrewsbury Town and Bristol Rovers so far, with the forward having made 15 appearances for the club since joining on a season-long loan from West Ham United. Marshall has been pleased with his individual performances since signing for Town, but the attacker is hoping to build on his goal return as he continues to develop his understanding with his teammates on the pitch.
Reflecting on his start to the campaign on a personal level at a press conference last week, the striker said: “I think I’ve been playing well. I still want to be scoring more goals than I have been, but any striker’s going to want to score more goals. Hopefully as the season goes on, I find myself more in those goalscoring positions, and get a few this season.

“Something you have to do as a striker is learn to play with whoever you’re playing with. That was the first time I got to play with Rhys (Healey) at the weekend there (against Exeter City), for the short while where it was me and him up front. I know he’s a completely different player than someone like Wardy (Danny Ward) or Bojan (Radulovic). I think it’s easy enough to adapt, you just need to know what they’re looking to do, and hopefully that complements what you’re looking to do, and hopefully you can play off each other.
“I’ve thought to myself, I don’t think I’ve missed many really big chances, so it’s not really the actual finishing that I’m looking at to see where I can get more goals, it’s being in the right areas, and knowing what players are going to do certain things at certain times.
“It’s just building up relationships, and hopefully as the season goes on, that gets stronger, and we learn off each other. Obviously I’m new to everyone apart from Brodie (Spencer), so they’re getting used to playing with me as well. As the season goes on, hopefully we all complement each other, and a striker needs to score goals. Hopefully we’re creating chances, and the two strikers, whoever they are, are putting them away.”
Marshall has been a regular starter during his loan spell so far, with 12 of his 15 appearances to date having been made from the beginning of matches. The striker has started each of Town’s last six League One fixtures, but was a substitute for Friday’s shock FA Cup exit at Tamworth.
Michael Duff has praised the forward for the way he has conducted himself during his loan spell, with the head coach saying in his press conference ahead of the cup defeat: “His attitude is first-class. His energy, he looks like he loves football.
“Some players don’t like football, I’ve played with players that don’t like football, but he looks like he loves coming into work, shorts and T-shirt every day no matter what the weather, a bit of a throwback really where he just wants to play, he wants to score goals. He’d stay out there until the floodlights came on if you let him, so from my point of view, he’s brilliant, he’s infectious.
“The kitmen love him, which tells you everything. When a loan player comes in and the kitmen love them straight away, it tells you they’re a bubbly sort of character around the place, and I think it’s reflected in his performances.”
Marshall will be hoping to add to his goal return on Saturday when the Terriers take on Crawley Town in their next League One encounter away from home, as Duff’s side aim to respond positively to the disappointment of their FA Cup defeat.
