Callum McGregor insists Celtic's record in Old Firm derbies gave them confidence that they could get the job done against Rangers.

The Hoops all but wrapped up three-in-a-row in yesterday's frantic title showdown at Parkhead and could be officially crowned champions if they avoid defeat at Kilmarnock on Wednesday. McGregor was at his brilliant best yesterday and the skipper says he always had full belief and trust that the Celtic dressing room had the minerals to end Gers' title dreams.

He said: "The previous games against Rangers have given us confidence. We understand that we can perform in these big matches. And we have what it takes to get over the line. It was a home game and the way we play, we want to get on the front foot.

"By no means do we not think it is going to be difficult - we have been in hard games against Rangers this season and not been perfect. But if you have the ingredients you need to get over the line, back each other up defensively and fight for each other then it gives you a great chance.

"It is never going to be perfect - you will have bad days in these fixtures. So you need the fine details to fall for you. I just try to give the boys as much confidence. and togetherness as possible and, so far in the games, we have shown up reasonably well. And we understand there's another big one at the end of the season as well."

Celtic have lost both their previous games at Rugby Park this season but the green-and-white faithful lucky enough to have tickets will be expecting a title party.

McGregor said: "Mathematically we understand where we are now. Two games to go, six points clear. - but nothing has been won. We lost at Rugby Park earlier in the season so know how hard that is going to be. We have got to rest, recover then we'll give everything we have there.

"The result today gives us breathing space. But to be honest, we don't want it. We want to win the next two games and have a strong end to the league campaign. We understand there's more work to be done before the end of the season."
