Callum McGregor admits title hopefuls Aberdeen are keeping Celtic on their toes.

Both sides are locked on 31 points after a remarkable start to the campaign, with third-placed Rangers nine adrift. Celts are top on goal difference but after the Dons dismantled Dundee on Saturday night, McGregor has welcomed the challenge from the rejuvenated Dons.

However, the Parkhead skipper remains confident that he'll be bringing the league crown home for a fourth season in a row. He said: "We're always there, whether it's Aberdeen or Rangers. We're always tight at this point in the season. We know what we're doing, we've been over the course many, many times. We know it's about us, how we prepare, how we train.

"That just all builds and culminates come the end of the season. We feel good where we are. There are teams challenging, and that's great - it just keeps us ultra-sharp and focused."

McGregor eased the nerves at Rugby Park on Sunday by breaking the deadlock seconds before half-time before Nicolas Kuhn sealed a 2-0 victory. It capped off a breathless week across three competitions, having also beaten Aberdeen in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final and Champions League rivals RB Leipzig.

He said: "I'm just happy the team won. It keeps us moving in the right direction. Every game's a challenge, everyone's desperate to beat you. "So you've got to stand up and be counted - and I thought the players did that really, really well.

"We showed another side to ourselves and that's always positive, because you'll have tough moments throughout the season. Everyone's watching. Is it a hangover? What are they going to be like?

"The performance was a little bit sticky in terms of the football but it's never going to be pretty there. You've got to do the other side of the game, and for the group to show that then, that's really pleasing as well."
