Cameron Carter-Vickers' vital block to keep Celtic in the lead against Aberdeen left pundits in awe of his talents, as the Hoops make their way down from Pittodrie with a 1-0 win under their belt - with the defender having denied Ester Sokler from scoring a late equaliser.

With Reo Hatate having scored a late strike to break the deadlock, Aberdeen were still always in the game - and they thought their chance came when the ball dropped to Sokler just yards from goal. However, Carter-Vickers got a vital toe to turn it over the bar, with the Dons unable to conjure up any more chances.

The win puts Celtic seven points clear with a game in hand, and it has seen Carter-Vickers praised for his commitment - with Jonny Hayes stating that the defender's 'fighting spirit' filters through to the whole team and makes them impenetrable.

Neil Lennon opened the discourse around the USA international, beginning: “You can’t take him for granted. He’s so consistent, and in his absence you really feel it when he’s not there. He’s so calm even in the way he speaks, he gets on with the job and he’s a manager’s dream.

"[Carter-] Vickers on the right, Trusty on the left - they’re both athletic and defend really well. He’s come up with a massive block there - I do believe Sokler should have scored it - and it’s a good partnership not just domestically, but in Europe as well.”

Jonny Hayes backed his former manager by adding that their spirit means midfielders want to defend and attacking players value the art of pressing, as he added: "That comes from you training every day. The staff, how they want the players to train, how they behave, how to life their life - everything. It filters down onto the football pitch.

"You see Cameron [Carter-Vickers] and Auston [Trusty] leading the rest of the team, and it inspires the rest of the team and makes attacking players want to run back and help their defenders out, and it makes midfielders want to put in blocks as much as defenders. It’s that fighting spirit that every successful team will have.”

And even Rangers hero Kris Boyd got in on the act with his compliments, though he couldn't resist a dig at Lennon at the end, stating: “The one thing with Celtic is they grind you down. They just keep the ball moving and they tire you. Aberdeen made a few substitutions, you just felt it wasn’t the same in the wide areas. Take nothing away from Celtic, the take-and-finish [from Hatate] is exceptional. To have the awareness and the composure just to lift it over the top, the touch and the finish, it’s unbelievable. He makes it look easy, but trust me, that isn’t easy.

“What a difference it makes when you have centre midfielders who can do that, eh, Mr Lennon?”
