Cardiff are looking to find short-term cover for Mason Grady after the wing was injured during Wales duty this autumn.

The 22-year-old limped off early in Wales' defeat to Fiji in their opening game of the autumn campaign, with the powerful back later released from Warren Gatland's squad to undergo surgery on his ankle.

It's understood he could be out for at least two months, with his involvement in the Six Nations in doubt.

Cardiff face the Dragons in a Welsh derby this weekend, before heading into their Challenge Cup campaign and more derbies against Welsh opposition over the festive period - with Grady set to miss the lot.

And, as Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt revealed the nature of the injury, he also confirmed the Blue and Blacks had been searching for cover for one of their most dangerous weapons ahead of a busy block of fixtures.

"He's got a fracture in his ankle," said Sherratt. "Mason will be out for a little bit of time.

"It won't be a season-ender."

WalesOnline understand the Arms Park club have put out some feelers in recent weeks about a short-term signing to negate the loss of Grady, who had featured in all of Wales' nine Tests in 2024 prior to his injury.

Having featured off the bench in the Six Nations, Grady spent the summer starting for Wales in the unfamiliar position of inside centre.

However, this autumn saw him switched to his club position of wing - which, along with midfield, is where Cardiff could need some cover.

"It's got to be the right cover," added Sherratt. "We'll have a look around but it's got to be the right cover - a 13/wing slot.

"We've still got Rey (Lee-Lo) - we'll be saying that still in 10 years - and guys like Harri Millard so we're alright."

Wales wing Josh Adams is also nearing his return after six months out, while Cardiff have wings Gabe Hamer-Webb and Iwan Stephens in their ranks.
