Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has sent a message to Jose Mourinho after reuniting with the manager.

The Portuguese tactician was in the opposing dugout on Thursday night as United took on Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce in the Europa League. Casemiro was introduced midway through the second half with the score level after Youssef En-Nesyri cancelled out Christian Eriksen's opener.

Mourinho was animated on the touchline and was sent off by referee Clement Turpin, forcing him to watch the latter stages from the stands. The former United boss was left in disbelief after a double save from Andre Onana, and had time for Casemiro as the pair shared a warm embrace at half-time and before the second half.

The 32-year-old made just one appearance for the iconic manager, but it came at an important stage of his career - making his debut for Real Madrid against Real Betis aged 21. In a post on Instagram, the Brazilian wrote: "The coach who made my debut at Real Madrid."

It was the beginning of an illustrious spell at the Spanish giants as he won five Champions League medals, not to mention three La Liga titles, three Spanish Cups with as many Club World Cup triumphs.

The midfielder has previously claimed that Mourinho helped him achieve his childhood dream. Casemiro said back in 2020: "[Mourinho said to me] 'I know you, I know who you are'.

"Go out and burst the first ball. That's what the [Santiago] Bernabeu loves. I remember then leaving my hotel room thinking I was the best defensive midfielder in the world.

"Brazilian children now dream of playing for Real Madrid; in my era, I dreamed of leaving the neighbourhood."

Casemiro ended his association with Los Blancos in 2022 in making the switch to Old Trafford for £70million. After arriving in the Premier League, current United manager Erik ten Hag said: "He's the cement between the stones.

"That's what we have looking for in the summer. We've found him and I'm really happy."
