Celtic could smash THREE Rangers records as ’most successful team in Scotland’ boast in grave danger
"The most successful team in football" is what the Rangers fans sing as they follow their team every Saturday and more and it's a boast they've used to lord it over other teams - but mainly Celtic.
With their record-breaking 55 league titles, 34 Scottish Cups and 28 League Cups, another record, the Ibrox side claim to be the most prosperous time on the planet when it comes to silverware. They certainly are in Scotland. Even during the relatively barren last 13 years or so, just one top flight and one each of the domestic cups won in that time, it's something they've been able to cling onto.
Others view it as a comfort blanket but Gers supports would counter that it's simply the facts, over their history they have been a trophy-winning machine. However, with the Hoops basically sweeping all before them over the last decade and more they are slowly closing in one some of their rivals' records.
And that means the Ibrox men may not even have those boasts to cling onto for much longer. With an Old Firm Scottish Cup final coming up, the Parkhead side can doubly delight their fan base by overtaking their rivals.
The Glasgow clubs are currently joint on 62 domestic cups won, so a Hoops victory would edge them ahead on that front. In terms of all time Old Firm derby victories, Rangers are currently ahead with 169 to 168 so a Hoops victory would equal things on that score.
Gers' currently held record as Europe's most decorated club with 118 major honours would also be equalled once the title is mathematically confirmed and IF Celtic also win the cup.
On top of all of the, Celts will next season have the chance to equal the 55 titles record. This campaign will be 54 for the Hoops and following that up with a win next season would be 55.
