Celtic flop Vakoun Bayo made headlines this weekend by netting FOUR goals in Watford's 6-2 thrashing of Sheffield Wednesday.

The Ivory Coast frontman spent a forgettable two years at Parkhead, finding the net just twice, after arriving from Dunajska Streda in 2019. But the striker produced a masterclass in finishing at Hillsborough on Saturday by plundering four goals in a remarkable 30-minute spell.

Bayo - who was flogged by the Hoops to Gent in 2021 - has struggled to win fans over since first joining the Hornets in a £5million switch two years ago. A modest return of 16 goals from 80 games has left punters frustrated with his lack of potency - a familiar theme of his time in Glasgow.

However, after just one goal all season, Bayo silenced his critics by slamming in an incredible four goals past Sheffield Wednesday to move Tom Cleverly's side up to fifth in the Championship. Bayo doubled his season tally by lashing a penalty straight down the middle to make it 3-1 on 58 minutes. He then headed in Watford's fourth of the afternoon before completing his hat-trick with an exquisite chip to put the game beyond any doubts.

Bayo wrapped up his sensational afternoon in the 88th minute by blasting a far-post shot into the roof of the net, relieving some pressure on the shoulders of boss Cleverly who beamed: "Bayo fully deserved his four goals. I couldn't be more pleased for an individual; his unselfish play doesn't generate the most praise but we really appreciate it.

"We want to create a mentality where we're confident we can deal with big expectations and compete at the right end of the table. It's not been as shocking as it may look on paper with our away form this year. We've just had three really poor performances in a tough run of games.

"The fans have travelled in their numbers again and they really deserve it. We've had some bad away results and hopefully after today we can move on from those."
