Celtic tipped to land mega £10m payday as 'imminent' Palma exit could spark transfer frenzy – Parkhead news bulletin
Celtic have been talked up to land a top eight spot in the Champions League - and the guaranteed extra £10MILLION in revenue that comes alongside it.
The Hoops have impressed un Europe so far this season and while a draw with Club Brugge took the shine off things slightly, they look well-placed to progress to the knockout phase. Eight points from five games, including famous victory over RB Leipzig, mean they sit 20th and one more victory will all-but secure their passage to the playoff as one of the teams ranked ninth to 24th.
However a strong start means the lucrative top eight isn't out of their reach. They may be 12 places away from Monaco, who currently sit in eighth place, but they're just two points behind and a pair of wins over Dinamo Zagreb and Young Boys could shoot them up the table. What would that secure them if they got it?

Firstly, it would mean they would bypass a playoff and go straight through to the round of 16. And just as significantly, it would earn them almost £10m in extra revenue.
Celtic banked £15.7m just for qualifying for the Champions League, while each of their wins has been worth £1.8m, and draws with Atalanta and Brugge were worth £590,000 apiece. Finishing in one of the playoff spots is worth a further £900,000. But if they finish in the top eight, and go straight through to the round of 16, that's where the real money is. The Hoops would then take home £1.7m for their final placing, and a mammoth £9.3m for being one of the final 16 teams left in the competition.
But can they do it? James McFadden thinks so. He said on Open Goal: “I still think they have a chance of top eight. They have got Young Boys at home. Dinamo away and then Villa for the last game.
“They are still in a good position. There are (big) teams that are struggling. It was different (against Club Brugge). They never really troubled the goal. As good as they looked, they weren’t peppering the goal and the goal they get is just calamitous for Celtic.
“A couple of years ago Celtic might have lost the Brugge game. Before the game, you are thinking ‘right, this is a great chance for Celtic to win’. But when you watch it and, at the end of the game, a point isn’t a disaster. It’s actually good for the position that they are in.”
Elsewhere Luis Palma is being linked with a January move to MLS. The Honduran is well down the pecking order at Celtic and was left out of Saturday's 5-0 drubbing of Ross County.
Nicholas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda are Brendan Rodgers' first choice wide men, but Palma now finds himself behind veteran James Forrest and Yang. He has made several cryptic social media posts after warming the bench at best for most of this season and his future looks like it lies away from Parkhead. The Scottish Sun say there's plenty of interest Stateside, and Palma looks odds on to depart the champions when the window opens in four weeks' time.
Palma leaving plus an extra £10m guaranteed in the bank could easily spark Celtic into life in January. Reports previously suggested they are in the market for a new winger and a striker, with Mathias Kvistgaarden one who hasn't quite gone away. The Dane, who can fill both of those positions, could be one they look to to kill two birds with one stone.
