Chelsea could strike shock transfer that would bank FFP 'pure profit' despite Tottenham display

Trevoh Chalobah

Trevoh Chalobah could be on his way out of Chelsea this summer, with Todd Boehly reportedly preparing to sell him despite recent impressive performances under Mauricio Pochettino.

The 24-year-old defender, who only returned to full fitness in February, demonstrated his leadership skills during the Blues' win over Tottenham on Thursday. Chalobah was rumoured to be leaving Chelsea last summer, and speculation has only grown stronger after he missed the first five months of this season due to a thigh injury.

His return has been a blessing for Pochettino, especially amid the club's ongoing defensive injury crisis, with players like Levi Colwill, Thiago Silva and Axel Disasi currently out of action. Chalobah's leadership was evident during the 2-0 win over Spurs, where he led the pre-match motivational talk with his teammates.

Despite being a relatively young player and having a peripheral role in the squad until recently, Chalobah took charge of the situation. He was joined in the huddle by captain Conor Gallagher and top-scorer Cole Palmer, but it was Chalobah who took the reins.

He followed up his motivational speech with a fantastic header in the first half, before Nicolas Jackson sealed the victory. Despite Chalobah's recent man of the match performance, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Boehly and Chelsea's sporting directors are likely to sell him in the summer.

As a product of the Blues' academy, any sale would be pure profit. A strong end to the season could see Chelsea command a substantial fee if all parties agree to part ways. Chalobah, who joined the club's youth setup as a youngster, proved his worth during three separate loan spells before earning his place in the first team.

The former England Under-21 star has made 76 senior appearances for Chelsea, but it remains uncertain whether Boehly and his team will allow him to add to this beyond the current season. After defeating his old club Spurs, Pochettino praised the 'emotion' that Chalobah and fellow academy graduate Gallagher bring to the squad.

"Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher were fantastic," he said. "Players that grew in this club, came through the academy system, they have the capacity in this type of game to give a little bit more because it's emotional."
