Chelsea welcome Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge this coming weekend, by which time they'll expect to have recovered a number of players who missed Saturday's win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez fired Chelsea into what proved to be an unassailable lead and it cost Steve Cooper the Foxes job.

The Blues emerged victorious despite having a number of first-team players missing; Enzo Maresca was unable to call on trio Levi Colwill, Pedro Neto and Malo Gusto in the East Midlands, all of whom may have started, but all three of those players ought to return in time for the visit of Villa this coming Sunday.

Defenders Colwill and Gusto were both struck down with illness at the end of last week and Maresca decided to give both players the chance to recover fully before calling on them again. Neto, meanwhile, was away with Portugal in the international break and he suffered a minor setback but is also in line to return this week.

“Pedro, he had a problem with his international team,” Maresca said. “There was a chance he could be with us but we didn't take any risks for this game and hopefully he can be available for the next game."

Chelsea, who top the Europa Conference League, play Heidenheim on Thursday in their latest group stage game but that has been a competition used by Maresca to utilise the players who don't start as often in the Premier League and indeed Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana were left out of the Conference League squad altogether.

Reece James, meanwhile, has had a hamstring set-back and is a doubt to face Villa, while Omari Kellyman - who moved from Villa to Chelsea for £19m in the summer - hasn't yet returned to training after a hamstring injury of his own since joining. Kellyman is due to return in December and begin again in the Premier League 2.
