Chelsea has sealed a deal to sign Atlanta United's young talent, Caleb Wiley. Once again busy in the market, this is expected to be the sixth player signed by the Stamford Bridge side this summer.

The Athletic reports that the 19-year-old left-back is poised to join Chelsea for a fee of $10.9m (£8.5m/€10.0m). It is suggested that his contract will extend until 2031, with a clear development plan already in place.

The Blues are planning to loan Wiley to Strasbourg next season, aiming to provide him with more first-team football experience in Europe before integrating him into the squad at Chelsea. This move to Stamford Bridge caps off an exhilarating few days for the American player.

On Monday, Wiley was selected for the United States squad for the Paris Olympic Games. The full-back is highly regarded within American football circles and has already earned two first-team caps, although he missed out on a spot at Copa America this time around.

In MLS, Wiley has successfully carved out a place for himself as a first-team player, making 84 appearances for Atlanta. During this period, he has scored six goals and provided seven assists.

While primarily a left-back, Wiley has also been known to play on the left side of midfield and even as a left winger. Chelsea's acquisition of the American is believed to have been facilitated by the Blues' strong ties with Atalanta.

Some might question the seven-year contract set to be handed to Wiley, but this approach has become a hallmark of Todd Boehly's ownership at Stamford Bridge. It is a risky strategy that could pay off.

Meanwhile, Chelsea is "furious" at the prospect of losing Rio Ngumoha, reports the Daily Mail. The 15-year-old is considered one of the best talents anywhere in his age group and is said to be close to completing a move to Liverpool.
