Every time the transfer window opens, everyone's attention is focused on Chelsea and the amount of money they plan to invest in addressing issues within their squad.

That has certainly been the case in the last few years, but the January window presents a different opportunity to the Blues. Millions has been spent on improving the team since the takeover, and the rewards are finally being reaped.

Enzo Maresca's men currently sit third in the Premier League table after 12 games. The Italian has turned the fortunes around at Stamford Bridge and answered a number of his critics, but there remains plenty left to do.

When the January transfer window does open, there is expected to be a number of players made available for transfer. However, there could be some shock deals completed in the New Year.

With that being said, football.london takes a look at the latest transfer news and gossip from Stamford Bridge...

Asking price set

Reece James has been one of Chelsea's trusted allies since bursting onto the scene in 2019. However, injury issues have stopped him from becoming a persistent face on the pitch.

His recent setback means he has missed a chunk of games over the past two seasons. Now, TBR Football have reported that the club are open to selling the right-back

James is under contract at Chelsea until 2028, but the report states that he could depart for as little as £20million.

football.london says: "Selling James could be difficult for a number of reasons. The obvious one being, what club is going to want to spend millions on a player who has an unfortunate injury record?

"But one thing that Chelsea would have difficulty in allowing their captain to leave would be the feeling from fans. James is adored by the Stamford Bridge faithful and cashing-in seems like it should be out of the question."

Bayern Munich transfer raid

Chelsea's curious case with young talent Josh Acheampong is set to be contested with interest from some of Europe's best teams. According to journalist Felix Johnston, Bayern Munich are looking to swoop in and take advantage of the Blues' decision not to include him in the first-team.

“Tentative progress has been made on the Chelsea side. Chelsea are really pushing and talks are on-going. They don’t want the situation to drag on," he said.

"“One area where progress has been made is Chelsea presented a potential idea for a loan to Strasbourg in the future. In talks on pathway, this was initially a stumbling block, as it wasn’t desired by the player, but I’m told he’s now more open to it after talks.

"There are a lots of clubs interested in Acheampong. In addition to PSG, Real Madrid, Dortmund and Liverpool, I’m told Bayern Munich are very interested. They are promising the player immediate 1st team minutes. Liverpool’s pursuit is linked to the Trent Alexander-Arnold situation. PSG are very interested, but to this point it’s not the player’s preferred destination.”

football.london says: "Chelsea have to get on top of the situation with Acheampong. He's so talented and if they don't make the most of having him at their disposal, someone else will.

"Clubs being interested in the youngster isn't a surprise. There are a number of case studies of players leaving England, for whatever reason, and moving to Europe for first-team minutes.

"Jamal Musiala is the perfect example for Acheampong. He left Chelsea and is now highly-rated as one of the best midfielders in Europe. Chelsea can't let that happen again."
