Chelsea star Moises Caicedo makes drastic decision before Brighton return

Moises Caicedo is challenged by Morgan Gibbs-White

Moises Caicedo has made a surprise decision before Chelsea's Premier League clash against Brighton. The Blues brought Caicedo from the south coast last summer in a record-breaking £115million deal and given that price tag, he has faced significant criticism in his first season at the club.

During the first few months of his Chelsea career Caicedo did struggle, however recently he has delivered numerous expert midfield performances. Following their third consecutive league victory, Chelsea are now seventh in the table on 57 points only behind sixth-placed Newcastle because of goal difference.

Europa League qualification was not something in Chelsea's sights just a few weeks ago, however a few positive results, along with other teams dropping points, now makes it a realistic goal. Considering their recent form, Pochettino was asked if Chelsea had turned a corner, with his answer certainly telling.

"You like to see all of the numbers and data. We were punished for the first 10 games, not because of our performances but because we were not clinical enough with the chances we created," he said after the win against Forest.

"In these first 10 games, to have between four and eight points more, I think today we would be in a completely different position. If you count the game we played against Tottenham [in November], that was number 10, we have played 26 games [since] and if you start to count from there I think we would be in the top four of five, for sure, with some very good performances.

"That is not because you asked me but to assess the last 26 games, if you put all the circumstances in there and you analyse and assess this season, we are in a clear way going high. Finishing strong is our challenge now to try and achieve to be in Europe next season and start the next season strongly."

Caicedo improving as the season has gone on has been key in the Blues hitting form at the perfect time and now the midfielder has made a big decision before returning to Amex Stadium. Perhaps taking inspiration from Nicolas Jackson before the clash with Arsenal earlier this year, Caicedo has changed his hair colour from dark to blonde but still with the usual grade 1 haircut.

The appearance change may not be the best omen for Chelsea though, with Jackson's decision to go blonde closely followed by a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal. Earlier in the season, the Blues beat Brighton at Stamford Bridge and they will therefore be hoping to repeat that in the hunt for a European spot.
