Chris Davies explains why Ben Davies and Taylor Gardner-Hickman missed Birmingham City match
Chris Davies has revealed Ben Davies missed Birmingham City’s draw with Northampton Town due to illness.
The on-loan Rangers defender was expected to lose his place with Blues skipper Krystian Bielik back fit but Davies was absent from the squad. Dion Sanderson kept his place on the bench and replaced Bielik in the closing stages.
Sanderson was one of those culpable for Mitch Pinnock’s 97th minute equaliser at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park. Davies should be able to reclaim his spot in the squad after the international break.

“Ben was ill this week so he was unavailable,” Blues manager Davies confirmed after the game.
Taylor Gardner-Hickman’s absence from the squad also came as a surprise. Gardner-Hickman has been a regular starter for Blues this season at right-back and in midfield.
Explaining his omission, Davies added: “Gardner-Hickman was (left out) in terms of the squad balance for this game. Taylor has been working well and doing well for us and will be a big part of what we’re doing moving forward.”
