Chris Davies hails star as a 'dream' for Birmingham City team-mates
Chris Davies paid tribute to Willum Williamson’s progress after the Iceland international produced a sumptuous hat-trick of assists in Birmingham City’s 7-1 victory over Fulham Under 21s.
The 26-year-old laid on a first half brace for Jay Stansfield and unselfishly squared for Alfie May in the second period as Blues reached the knockout stages of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy with their biggest home win since December 1994.
While Stansfield, May, Ayumu Yokoyama, Lyndon Dykes and Keshi Anderson bagged the goals, Willumsson was the one who stood out as the conductor of the orchestra.
Davies hailed the former Go Ahead Eagles man: “He's a really clever player, he's got very close control, he's obviously big and quite imposing on the pitch, but technically very, very good.
“He keeps the ball close to his feet, he's difficult to read. He's clever with his passing. He's looking for the striker all the time. He's a bit of a striker's dream, really, because he'd always look for you and look to combine and serve you.
“So he's been very good he's adapted to English football. He's got a high ceiling and he needs to keep working hard, as he's been doing and making the impact, because now everyone's starting to really recognise what a good player he is.”
Overall, Davies was very pleased with his team’s display. “I thought we were very good, we were the dominant team obviously throughout and I think what was really pleasing – that was a mixture of players haven't played very much and others that have been playing more and I was really pleased with how we looked.
“We started the game with the right intent, right attitude and that continued throughout. We looked like we still wanted to be out there for another half an hour at the end of the game. So it's really pleasing.”
