CHS Rugby splits home matches with Crestwood and Cedar Rapids Jefferson

Apr. 19—CLINTON — The Clinton High School club rugby team hosted their lone home meet of the season on Friday night as they welcomed multiple teams for a night full of rugby.

Clinton started by giving their junior varsity squad some experience, taking on the Farm Boys.

The Kings were looking good, taking a 7-5 lead into the half.

However, out of the break the defense just could not keep up for the final seven minutes and they dropped their lone match of the night 26-12.

Clinton's varsity team took on Crestwood in the very next match and defense was the same issue as they were in trouble trailing 36-7 at halftime.

Elston Lindner was able to score in the second half but Crestwood was too much to handle as Clinton fell 48-19.

The night was capped off with the River Kings taking on Cedar Rapids Jefferson and this was back and forth in the first half.

Jefferson scored first but Clinton answered. The same sequence happened again but Clinton took the lead on a Jefferson penalty and the Kings led 15-12 at halftime.

Clinton took off in the second half, scoring three consecutive times to take a commanding 32-12 lead. Jefferson did score one more time but Clinton got the win 32-17.
