Clippers owner Steve Ballmer is the richest owner in sports for 8th straight year

Once again, Steve Ballmer is the richest owner in all of professional sports.

The former Microsoft CEO, who purchased the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014 for $2 billion, was named the richest owner in sports for the eighth straight year Wednesday by Forbes.

Ballmer led Microsoft from 2000-2014. He has a reported net worth of about $83 billion, which is down about 14% in the past year but still makes him the eighth-richest person in the country. The Clippers are reportedly worth about $3.3 billion.

New Denver Broncos owner and Walmart heir Rob Walton is second on the list, though he’s significantly behind Ballmer. Walton is reportedly worth about $57 billion, down more than 16% in the past year. Walton and his ownership group purchased the Broncos earlier this year for an American record $4.65 billion.

Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC owner David Tepper is third on the list at about $18.5 billion. Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera and New York Mets owner Steve Cohen round out the top five.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones — whose franchise is valued at $8 billion, the most in all of professional sports — is seventh on the list at about $16 billion, which is up nearly 76% in the past year.

Stan Kroneke is eighth on the list at about $13 billion. He owns the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids and Arsenal F.C.

Philip Anschutz is the first NHL owner to appear on the list at No. 11. The Los Angeles Kings owner, who also owns the LA Galaxy, is worth about $11 billion. He is just ahead of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

Rocco Commisso is the first international owner — outside of Kroenke and Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham FC owner Shahid Kahn — on the list at No. 13. He is worth about $7.7 billion, and owns Italy soccer club ACF Fiorentina.
