COLCHESTER United's under-18s claimed an impressive 3-1 win at AFC Bournemouth, writes BRIAN WALLER.

It has not been a very successful season for Elliott Ward's team so far in the Professional Development League, despite several good displays.

However, they travelled to second-placed Bournemouth who had won their last five matches and claimed a fine win.

For their part, the U's had just the one solitary league win all season but in this game they were exceptional, defying their lowly league position of being bottom.

Although they trailed at the break, Colchester had a brilliant second half, where they scored three times.

There were two goals by Leo Makatta and another by Rash Drysdale for the U's.

With their defence in superb form, the home strikers had a frustrating match.

The U's second goal was of quality building up from the back with one touch football.
