How does seeding for the 12-team playoff work?

The top-four seeds in the tournament will be given to the four highest-ranked conference champions. Each of them will earn a first-round bye as well.

The fifth-highest ranked conference champion will also be guaranteed a spot in the CFP, but they will not be guaranteed the No. 5 seed. Seeds 5-12 will be determined based on the selection committees final rankings. If the fifth-highest ranked conference champion is ranked outside the top-12, they will earn the playoff's No. 12 seed.

What bowl games will take place during the CFP?

Each of the four quarterfinals games and both semifinals games will be played at the current New Year's Six Bowls. Those bowls include the Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Cotton, and Peach Bowls. As was the case with the four-team playoff, those bowls will rotate between hosting the semifinal and quarterfinal games each year.

In 2024, the quarterfinal bowl games will be the Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl, and Sugar Bowl. The semifinal bowl games will be the Cotton and Orange Bowls.

Why hasn't the CFP rankings show started yet?

The 8:30 p.m. ET start time listed for the CFP Rankings show tonight was merely an approximation. In reality, the show was scheduled to start after the conclusion of the men's college basketball game between Michigan State and Kansas. The teams are competing in the State Farm Champions Classic.
