'On me' - Coventry City man holds his hands up after tough night in both boxes for the Sky Blues
Joel Latibeaudiere held his hands up after Coventry City’s determined fight-back fizzled out when they conceded a dreadful second goal against West Bromwich Albion.
The Sky Blues were really unlucky to find themselves behind at the break due to an Alex Mowatt goal that took a huge deflection off Josh Eccles to wrong-foot goalkeeper Brad Collins. But just when Frank Lampard’s men looked the more likely to get a goal to get themselves back on level terms in the second half, so they allowed Karlan Grant the freedom of The Hawthorns, the forward running through on goal all too easily to slot home a second for the Baggies.
Defender Latibeaudiere, who had been one of the standout performers of the weekend’s clean sheet at Millwall, told BBC CWR: “The first goal is a deflection but still, he’s allowed a free shot on the edge of our box. You don’t really want that, especially as that’s a big thing for them and something that we looked at before.

“And the second goal, I think that’s on me, personally. Grant drops in, gets the ball and turns and just shifts past me too easily, so I said that after the game, I took that one and I will look back at that and learn from it and won’t let it happen again.”
Asked if it was frustrating that City continue to concede goals when the opposition have not looked that threatening, he said: “Yes, and I think that’s just where we are at the minute. The games are won in each box. Between the boxes we are unreal but the games are won and lost in their box and our box, and at the moment we aren’t winning that battle.”
He added: “I love playing where I am playing as a centre-back. Bobby (Thomas) is great to play alongside. It was a great result against Millwall but that’s been and gone now and we need to go and back that up now and start going on a run and collecting some points and showing some consistency, because that’s what takes you up this league.
“It was a tough game but I don’t think the score reflects how the game was. I think at the end of the day West Brom took their chances and we didn’t take ours. It felt like we created plenty of chances and I feel like the ones we gave up weren’t good enough, and it was too easy.
“We can always take the positives from the game, the fact that we created chances, and loom to learn but at the end of the day we created chances but we didn’t go and commit and take them. And we need to go and look back at that and learn from it. We have a game in two days and that’s the beautiful thing about football; we have got a chance to correct it and go and put it right and get the CBS rocking again.”
