Daniel Cummings Celtic contract delay sparks EPL transfer red alert with Hoops future in limbo
Celtic are reportedly yet to table teenager Daniel Cummings with a contract to keep him at the club beyond the summer - as clubs down south continue to keep close tabs on the striker.
The 18-year-old has been in electric form for the Hoops' academy side this season, with an impressive 22 goals in 20 matches, including five goals in the UEFA Youth League. Brendan Rodgers was in the market for a third forward last summer after prospect Rocco Vata moved onto Watford, but a viable option to fill the vacancy much closer to home could be lost if a deal with Cummings cannot be reached.
Mail Sport claim that the Parkhead youngster is yet to receive a formal offer of a contract extension, despite winning public praise from Rodgers for his goal scoring exploits. Cummings will be able to speak to other clubs from January 1 with a view to penning a pre-contract ahead of next season. The striker could be the latest talent from the conveyer belt at Lennoxtown to depart in recent seasons, following the departures of Vata and fellow teen Daniel Kelly to Millwall last summer.
While Kelly joined EFL Championship side Millwall for an undisclosed fee, Celtic did receive around £237,000 in training compensation for Vata. The Premiership champions will also be entitled to a development fee if Cummings joins another club at the expiration of his contract at the end of the season.
